Reboot: Prison Break!

With the year starting out with many anticipated re-makes of movies from Stephen King’s It to Baywatch, a reboot of the beloved early 2000s television show Prison Break has been very refreshing.

The show that started in 2005 is about a young man, Michael Scofield played by Wentworth Miller, who devises a plan to be sent to jail to break his brother, Lincoln Burrows played by Dominic Purcell out. His brother has been convicted of allegedly killing the Vice President’s brother. As the shows goes on, in the first season, you get to see the intelligent Michael Scofield execute his plan and maneuver his way out of many hard situations.

This only intensifies in the following seasons where the escape continues in season 2 with the added problem of an organization called The Company. Another escape in season 3 from a prison in Panama and the devised plot to end the company once and for all in season 4.

SPOILER ALERT: In the double ending of season 4 the beloved main character Michael Scofield dies and it is thought to be the end of the series in 2009.

The story of the reboot is an interesting one, also with the reunion of two of the main characters on another show, The Flash. Miller was cast as Captain Cold, a known enemy of the superhero The Flash. He was meant to be a guest star on the show, but was asked to return for more episodes. When asked for any ideas for someone to play Captain Cold’s known accomplice Heat Wave, Miller first thought was Purcell to play the temperamental hot head.

The two went on to be part of their own show, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, another CW DC television show. With this reunion came the thought of what if that wasn’t the end for Michael Scofield and the crew of Prison Break began, what if there is another story to tell? With that the two partners-in-crime spoke with Fox and the idea of the reboot was created.

As the show just ended on Tuesday May 30, 2017, I can tell you that it was an incredible idea. I, as many have since it's ending in 2009, binge-watched the series on Netflix and fell in love, which was another reason for the reboot. The attention it was still receiving on Netflix and other entertainment outlets was outstanding.

As the summer is starting and many movie re-makes and new shows come out this is a great add to you list. With plenty of action, drama and characters to fall in love with, hate and then fall in love with again it is worth the watch.
