Hacksaw Ridge and Fantastic Beast
Two of the recent movie I have seen in theaters are the new war movie Hacksaw Ridge and Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. Both movies were very good in different ways. Hacksaw Ridge being a historical war movie and Fantastic Beast being a fantasy, prequel of the Harry Potter franchise.
Hacksaw Ridge is a war movie about a young man, Desmond Doss, who enlist, but refuses to kill. He endures many hardships including his father, his fellow soldiers and much of the rest of the army. His father is a former soldier who lost many of his fellow soldiers. He has become a abusive alcoholic and is angry when Doss enlist in the army. His mother being religious and his father being still hurt from his own time at war, both question his motives when war has a lot of violence. He enlist to become a medic, but has many struggles before he can reach that. Many people doubt him, but he never falters on his beliefs even when things are confusing to even him. The movie is very deep and real, but has the perfect balance of humor too.
Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is a prequel to the Harry Potter series that is set in 1920s New York. The movie follows Newt Scamander who journeys to American to essentially find a rare beast that is said to be sold their. At the same time there is a another beast called Obscurial. These beast come from wizards who are forced to hold in their magic and thus forming a horrible beast. Newt is thrown into trouble when some of the beast in the briefcase escape and he must find them. He does this with the help of his unexpected team Jacob Kowalski a no-maj (muggle), Queenie and Tina Goldstein both wizards from New York.
They go against many things in the town along with finding all his beast that have escaped. The movie was great in the aspects of connecting with the Harry Potter series. It draws in characters like Professor Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Arianna Dumbledore. It also brings to life many of the cool things that wizards can do. It also brought to life the real of the 1920s New York life outside of Great Gatsby and parties.
I highly recommend these two movies they are very entertaining and cool to watch.
