Fandoms!

Every franchise has their fandom when in comes to books and movies. From Harry Potter to Star Wars the fans are what make the movie widely known. These groups of people who defend and support their stories and characters are called Fandoms.

This word has sprung up in recent years particularly in the Twilight era. The crazed teens that read and watched the series come to life, were at war with the sides being: Team Edward and Team Jacob. A war that seemed very ridiculous to those outside the fandom.

Though this franchise sprung up the word, it was not the first crazed group of supporter for a series. Harry Potter is the biggest fandom of all time, but even it has some predecessors. Star Wars, Star Trek and Lord of the Rings just to name a few.

Fans in these fandoms know everything about this series to be known. That means knowing every aspect of the worlds, people, including the created creatures and races and languages like Dothraki, Klingon and Parseltongue.

These groups also no every in and out of their worlds that aren’t even in the books or movies. They what happens to characters after there are no more pages and the credits roll. They know the author’s regrets, the director’s mistakes and the unknown facts of every book, comic and movie.

The fandoms meet at comic cons and bring their fandoms to life by dressing in cosplay and even some times meeting the actual actors and actresses from the movies and shows. This is a big day for all fandoms because at comic cons there a announcements made for fandoms. This could be trailers, notices of if a show is to continue or end, reveals of which actors are going to play their favorite characters and more.

Fandoms are very serious about their stories and will defend them until the end. When books are turned into movies with huge changes the fandom will express the like or dislike for it. This is very controversial seeing as many series are being adapted into movies these days.

Movies and tv shows can live and die by their fandoms. Some do not last long like The Mortal Instrument, a fandom which I am a part of, which did so badly that it was adapted into a tv show that has done much better called Shadowhunters.

Fandoms are not just restricted to books and movies, but also branches into the music industry. These fandoms are supporters of artist or bands that they love. Many buy every album and follow their social media and try to go to every concert.

Many fandoms have names that brands their people to which they belong. Trekkies (Star Trek), Beliebers (Justin Bieber), Little Monsters (Lady Gaga), Barbies (Nicki Minaj), Whovians (Doctor Who) and Potterheads (Harry Potter) to name a few.

Many people may not even know that their interests has a fandom, but almost everything does nowadays. Many authors, actors and artist have fan bases that have turned in to fandoms and can be found by the click of a button. Many have various social media pages dedicated to their fandom and some even have websites.
